Venture Capital Advisory

Akin Bay focuses its Venture Capital Advisory practice on providing corporate financial advisory services primarily to clients which have already been through at least one round of institutional venture capital financing. Akin Bay’s Venture Capital Advisory practice most often centers on advising a client in accommodating existing venture capital financing investors and structures to a company’s changed circumstances, where the first or second round investments have become a barrier to growth and expansion. Akin Bay represents both companies which have previously gone through one or more venture capital financing rounds, as well as venture capital firms interested in retrieving value from an investment which has not performed to expectations, and where the company and the venture capitalist recognize a need to move on.

In a frequent variation on this type of engagement, early stage, “angel” investors can, as companies mature, develop goals at odds with those of the institutional venture funds which make later stage investments. Reconciling, or assisting in adjusting, the competing interests of these very differing investors can be vital in permitting a company to advance to the next logical stage of its development.

Client Profile for Venture Capital

Akin Bay does not act as a principal in raising venture capital but rather as placement agent with the many top tier venture capital firms with which we have relationships. We only look at companies which have revenues, but profitability is not always a requirement. We will raise capital in the right circumstances for a company which is growing rapidly but is too small for private equity firms.
